It’s Baaaaack………

After 29 years we are pleased to announce that we will be running the COAL MINER DAYS AMBASSADOR PAGEANT!!!
To our Male and Female Contestants Ages 13 to 18

Please fill out the attached application form and return it to the Sparwood Chamber of Commerce along with the required registration fee, no later than, April 25, 2019.

Due to the amount of planning that goes into the pageant, late Applications WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

The Ambassador will be the Representative of Coal Miner Days.

To compete in Coal Miner Days Ambassador Pageant contestants must fulfill the following requirements:

Contestant must be between the ages 13 to 18
Contestant must be enrolled in or a graduate of Post-Secondary or High School, you can be home schooled.
Contestants must be of good moral character, have no explicit photos of any kind in any medium nor a criminal record.
Contestants may not be married, pregnant, or have a child
Contestants must be a Canadian citizen, landed or permanent resident
Contestants must be a resident of the District of Sparwood for 6 months or more
Contestants must be available to participate in Coal Miner Days June 7 to 9
The Winner and runner ups agree to allow photos, name and bio to be published on social media platforms, print media and radio.

Judging

There are several levels of scoring for the pageant.  Each area represents a percentage of your total score.  You are judged on your personality, your ability to communicate, stage presence, charm, commitment to the community, fitness and confidence.  We are looking for contestants that have poise, confidence and act as a role model.

Private interview – 25%

The private interview is 5 minutes long.  There will be 5 Judges on a panel.  Contestants are questioned on their background, their educational and career goals, their opinions on current events, social issues, and their interests, hobbies and extracurricular activities.  Contestants are judged on communication skills, the ability to convey their opinion, personality and confidence.

Talent – 25%

In the talent competition, judges will be looking for each contestant’s artistic expression, their preparedness, technical skill, stage presence and entertainment value.  Talent will be a maximum of 90 seconds. 

Evening wear and onstage Question – 35%

The evening wear and onstage question phase of the competition is for judges to assess the contestant’s poise and ability to express themselves.  The evening wear should complement the contestant’s individuality.  It is permissible to wear dresses, evening pant suits, and long gowns for the female.  A suit or dress pants and shirt for males.  The onstage question will be platform related.

Public interaction – 15%

During this part of the competition contestants will be judged on their interaction and social skills with the public (through events performed leading up to the main stage event) and fellow contestants.
