Sparwood Knights of Columbus 12th Annual Soapbox Derby 2016
On June 12, 2016, the Sparwood Knights of Columbus hosted their 12th Annual Soapbox Derby with 66 entries. It was a great success due to our Soapbox Drivers and their Sponsors, and to volunteer help, support and contributions from various individuals, groups and businesses. A very big thank you to Elk Valley Thrift Shop for their generous donation for this year’s trophies, and also Rayco Steel’s donation. Volunteers included Cummins Creek Containers Mechanic tent and storage throughout the year, Finning Mechanics tent, Joey Deluca DJ Service, Intermountain Specialties, FR Rental, Sparwood Communications, Manitoulin Transport, Marg Gloeckler use of yard, Sparwood Ambulance, Coal Miner Days Committee and District of Sparwood. Special thanks to the many individual non-Knights of Columbus helpers!
This event is special every year, because of the children who take part to make it a fun filled day for all. It’s all about “Kids having fun.”

Sparwood Fire Department Emergency Awareness Day
Big thank you to Barb Anderson (pictured with the Ghostrider's at the parade) who organized the Coal Miners Cup ball hockey tournament. Winners were Cobra Kai from Calgary with local team Jager Bombers being runners up after a very hard fought final.
